The Best Elmira Guestbook!

Sadly, we are no longer accepting new photo requests, at least for the time being. Being located in Virginia, I have no means to fill any of the requests myself, and the few people who had supported this feature in the past haven't been heard from in quite some time. There wasn't one single photo request filled in all of 2007.

We don't wish to keep giving people false hope, so the decision has been made to leave these exisiting requests posted, but to not accept any new requests until we are once again fortunate enough to have some people able and interested in participating in this project.

To e-mail a photo in response to one of these requests, use the 'Submit this photo' link to the left of the request... please leave intact the number you will see in the subject field of the e-mail as this will link your photo to a specific request. We would like to credit all photos - if you are ok with this, please include your name or nickname in the body of your e-mail. And thanks in advance to all who take the time to provide the photos that will make this area work.

Submit this photo      Hi all- When I was new to the area history and genealogy, I did a terrible thing which I continue to regret!  My wife and I were looking through Elmira newspaper MF in Steel Library and we saw a photo of a flood which pictured a raw dirt bank with a coffin sticking out several feet. The photo had a caption and was in the middle of the page.
I naively thought that everyone in Daggett would have the photo since it was there on Seely Creek. Now we realize that it was of our ancester's small graveyard and the coffin probably belonged to a relative and there was a lot more washed down that day! If we could only find the photo again!
No one there remembers this event! However, a couple of our now desceased relatives did testify to such an even but could not remember when either. We can not remember when the newspaper showed the photo, but photos were not in newspapers until after 1920 in Elmira and this event was most likely before 1950! We would never do this now-we have come a long way! Bob and Tracie Lefler(talking to related Elmira families: Daggett/Updyke/Criss/Lefler/Cossart/Stilwell/Ferris/ Covert/Lounsberry/Carley
