I lived in Elmira all my life. I moved to NC 6 months ago. I miss being home. All my family is there, but there is no money. I moved for a better job and have it. I wish I had the same or better job in Elmira and I would still be there.

Dancing at daughers wedding Oct l5, 2005We have lived in Elmira all our lives except when Dick was in Army at Ft Benning GA.
Raised 4 children after starting in ll years after marriage in July 14, 1956. Three daughters and one son.
Two girls live here in Elmira and 3rd daughter lives in Omaha NE. Son lives in Las Vegas NV and stationed at Nellis AFB in his l4th year in Air Force. Due for deplyment to Iraq on Jan 3, 2006. Dick Retired from Postal Service in l991, and Marilyn worked only when first married and became a homemaker/mother in the mid Sixties.

Say what you will about Elmira, but for me it was a great place to grow up. I may not have thought that at the time, but now I have kids and I've lived in several large metropolitan areas. It just isn't the same as having your grandmother around the corner and your best friend next door. I loved seeing the pics of Hardy school... my folks bought a house on Dubois St. and I went to school there until third grade when it closed. It's kind of sad that the pics were taken after it already closed and the windows are boarded up. I have so many great memories from those years... I always remember being a little scared whenever we had to go to art class in the basement, LOL! Anyway, for prosperity sake I can't live in Elmira now, but I still come back to visit my folks and other friends and family when I can. I definitely want my boys to experience things like Harris Hill, WG State Park, the gorges in Ithaca, etc. Thanks so much for giving your time to this site!

moved here 17 years ago. still have family there. I go back every couple of years and check things out. still miss some of the things in a place that will always be called home. thanks for the sight.

Me and the BearWow...Talk about nastalgia. This site has made many memories resurface again... I have to say that I miss Elmira the most out of anywhere I ever lived.

I left Elmira 15+ years ago and do not miss it one bit. These pictures do bring back memories, but only memories of how much it sucked to live there. I found this website while looking for pictures of Elmira to show my 2 kids where I grew up. One day I will bring them to visit so they can appreciate how good they have it.
