 I would sacrifice being back in the colder area for the privildge of living near my families and two year old granddaughter from my oldest son who still resides up there but gosh the Job economy has got to improve to decent job opportunities first for me to even be able to have the privilidge of being near my granddaughter and families.

hi to irene patros, you dont know me but i remember when your family came to the usa. if i rememeber correctly..there was bill,tommy, pete,and mary patros. i was greek also and i was their interpeter for them at riverside school. then i lived on market st. near their house on madison.
how do you fit in the family?

I attended Southside in 1983 and 1984. Then we moved to the Heights and my sister and I graduated from Edison.
I was looking at the old Eldridge Park photos. I remember riding the airplanes, they would go out over the lake. I think the whip might have been my favorite ride there. They do bring back memories. How time flies.
My husband and I bought a ranch and have 3 horses. We trailride for pleasure. I used to dream about having my own horse. Remember dreams CAN come true.
If anyone remembers me, please send me a message. It would be nice to hear from some old classmates.

Class of 1958 EFA with 50 years passing makes one nostalgic. Elmira in the 1950's was a really fine city. Life is really nice now, but Elmira could probably benefit from a retro-fit... I am looking forward our reunion and would really enjoy hearing from former classmates. Cheers to All!

wow. that is all I can say. I was in town last week after being gone for 15 years!!!! I do not know how I found this site-I guess being there and seeing what has become of the place led me to do some "googling" and I found this site. I have lived in the Bay area for years-and it was quite a culture shock to be back. I was totally depressed the whole time-I do not know what I was expecting but maybe some CHANGE would be good. I grew up there-was there for 18 years. i can honestly say that i am glad I got out.some of the old houses ARE quite beautiful, and CHEAP...but there is a reason they are so cheap. What does the mayor of that city do? do people there just not care? it could be such a lovely place...there was not even a decent coffee shop there. I had to drive to Corning...the drive from Elmira to Corning is exactly the same. very pretty-but the same. maybe it would have been better to be there while the leaves were on the trees-it would not have seemed so dreary. I doubt I will be back any time soon, it was just too sad. i could hardly wait to drive back to NYC and get out of there. maybe a link to some activities on this site would be good-some events or something so that when people come to town they have some ideas. I hope the winter treats you all well.

Tomorrow is the 38th anniversary of the passing away of the late Bill A. Patros. Bill owned and operated the M & M Bar and Grill. Many of you may remember him from the M & M Hot Dog Stand. May his memory be eternal and may he rest in peace. Always in our hearts and minds, his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Love this site - brings back some memories but I notice that none of my classmates have signed in - shame on them! I left Elmira in '63 when I went to the USMMA in Kings Point - came back seven years later for a brief period, joined IR in Painted Post and was sent out to their European Marketing and Engineering HQ in the Netherlands ( my Dutch roots may have played a part in this decision)as a sales engineer and marketing support for their European sales area. Have lived here ever since and have only been back to Elmira once - in May of 2001 and then only for a few days with my oldest son Lance - he loved the area and wondered why I ever left. I now work for Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery as account manager for this neck of the woods ( Netherlands). But of course Elmira will always be engrained in my memory as I spent some of the best years of my life there -from 1957 when I came there from Holland and was placed in the sixth grade of Hopkins St. School and where I met some of the greatest guys and gals in my new country; until the time after HS graduation - a span of only 7 years but boy, were they intense! My mother now lives in Omaha NE, and enjoying it there at the ripe old age of 96 - My oldest brother Jan and youngest brother ( Bill - SHS class of 74)live there as well. My twin brother and sister Henk and Marian ( SHS class of 68?) live in Rochester NY and Virginia respectively, while my two elder sisters Corry (SHS '60) and Tineke live in Galveston TX and West Virginia resp. Scattered by the four winds and all far from Elmira, the town they all once called home.
Anyone remembering me or any of my siblings - give me a shout.

Hi, Everyone in Elmira (Again)
My three children, Bonnie Lee Philo 10 (Yes Named after the Famous Bonnie Lee Philo of the Health Department), Joshua Philo 8 and Alexis 7 and I spent a month in Elmira this summer visiting my dad Doug Philo and Sister Melissa Savino and her young family. Great to see dad, sis and the hometown again. It was an honor for me to show off were I grew up to my kids. It's nice to see Elmira is even more beautiful than I remember. Hope Everyone is well and thank you for a wonderful visit home!

 Hi all I grew up on Grand Central ave in the Harris's area my entire life graduated from EFA in 1998 and moved out here to TN in 1999 I have been home a handfull of times since if my family wasnt there I dont think I would go back I loved it there growing up but am ashamed to see what has happened to our quiet little town I would not raise my children there it is sure not what it used to be!! Great site. Brings back many memories.I miss home sometimes but not the winters. I moved to Ga in 1990 and then to Tampa in 2006. My daughter Michelle and grandson Tyler are in Elmira.
